In 1994, a team of Architects and Designers in Austin, Texas came together to establish SixthRiver. This distinguished design partnership consisted of experienced and award-winning professionals who possess a profound understanding of Austin’s culture and heritage. As the city transforms and grows, so does our firm. What started as a handful of local projects has since expanded into a portfolio of over 50 million square feet of built environment. From office buildings, mixed-use developments, student housing, corporate interiors, and hospitality projects – SixthRiver has built a lasting legacy in the community.
Today, we are a diverse collective of design professionals who are deeply committed to the collaborative process. We share ideas and draw from our extensive experience to craft meaningful solutions for our clients. Furthermore, as a predominantly women-owned business, SixthRiver proudly holds HUB, DBE, and WBE certifications, expanding the range of projects for our talented Architects and Designers. Together, we can continue to shape Austin into a city that serves everyone.
Flowing through the heart of Austin, the Colorado River is the most central of the twelve major rivers running southeast through Texas to the Gulf; it is the sixth river south of the Red, which runs along the Texas-Oklahoma border. Our flagship office in Austin was bordered by Colorado Street – an original north/south throughway of the city that was named after the river it stems from. At this location, inspiration struck and our firm’s name was born: SixthRiver.
The Colorado River offers beauty, sustainability, and a consistent economic return to Austin and its residents. Steady and true, the river provides vitality and vibrancy to our community that still attracts people from across the country.
While our initial relationship to the sixth river of Texas is locality, it is these attributes of the majestic resource that we aspire to emulate.
